
Broom Hall came to the Jessops when Richard Jessop** , married Anne Swift, born 1531, eldest daughter of Robert Swift.
William Jessop, of Rotherham, married Emotte, daughter of John Charlesworth, of Treeton. Her will is dated 10th February, 1569 and proved in 1570. His will, in which he styles himself of Treeton,is dated 12th December, 1557, and proved on the 26th April, 1558, at York. His bequests: "To my wife Emotte one third of all my goods; the farm wherein I now dwell to my wife for life for bringing up my children, and after her death to my sons Richard or Lawrence as she may appoint." .

Richard Jessop** , of Broom Hall in Sheffield, married Anne Swift, born 1531, being 27 years, died in 1567, eldest daughter of Robert Swift of Rotherham. His will was dated 8th October,1580, and proved 22 April, 1581, by Francis Wortley, his executor. He was buried at Sheffield on the 26th November, 1580.
He had five children:
William Jessop ², of Broom Hall, eldest son of Richard **, was 13 in 1575; buried 8th September, 1630. His first wife was Margaret, daughter of Sir John Atherton, of Atherton, County Lancaster. She was married at Sheffield, on 21st January, 1582, and buried there on 26th April, 1585.
By this marriage were two sons: -
He married Martha, daughter of the Goodrich family of East Kirby, Lincoln, and had eleven children: -
The second wife of William Jessop² was Anne, daughter of Lyon Goodrich, Esq., living may,1608.
By her he had two daughters: -
Wortley¹ Jessop, of Scofton, near Worksop, eldest son of William ² of Broom Hall; born 13 April, 1583, marriage settlement dated 30th January, 1608. His will was dated 13 April, 1615. He was lost at sea , apparently drowned in 1617 coming from Ireland where he had purchased lands, and his writings were also lost. His will was proved on 27th May, 1617.
He married Catharine, 2nd daughter of Thomas D'Oyley of London, M.D., by whom he had 2 children: -
William Jessop³, of Broom Hall, heir to his grandfather William, aged 4 years in 1614.His will was dated 1st April, 1641. he died Shortly after, and was interred at Sheffield on the 15th April, of that year.
By his 1st wife, Mary Bright , daughter of Stephen Bright, Bart., to whom he was married at Sheffield on 1st February,1631, and who was buried there 13 May, 1636, he had 3 children: -
The second wife of William Jessop³, was Jane, daughter of Sir Francis South of Kelstrom, Lincoln. The marriage settlement was dated 4 June, 1637. She was buried at Sheffield on 10th October, 1675.

Francis Jessop, of Broom Hall, Esq., heir of William Jessop³ , He was baptised at Sheffield on 25 April, 1638, and buried at Sheffield on 3 April, 1691.He married Barbara Eyre, his second cousin, daughter of Robert Eyre, of High Low, and of Holme Hall, Esq., son of Thomas Eyre and Anne Jessop. The marriage settlement, dated May, 1664, shows that he was able to endow her with lands in Yorkshire and Nottingham in return for her dowry of £2,000. He controlled the advowson of the parish church, owned 'a water-corne millne', and four 'cutler-wheeles' in Ecclesall and a number of Hallamshire tithes of corn and grain. His will was dated 10 April, 1688. He was buried at Sheffield on 3rd April 1691.

William Jessop, eldest son and heir of Francis Jessop ° was baptised at Sheffield on 22nd February,1664-65. He was a Bencher of Gray's Inn; one of his Majesty's justices of the peace of Chester, and Treasurer of the Alienation Office; also M.P. for Aldborough. He died at Broom Hall on 15th November, 1734, and was buried in the Parish church at Sheffield. He married Hon. Mary Darcy, daughter of James Darcy of Sedbergh Park, County York, (son of James Darcy of the same place, sixth son of Conyers, Lord Darcy), who was created Baron Darcy of Navan in the Kingdom of Ireland, 1721, with remainder to his grandson, James Jessop. She died 17 June, 1737, and was buried by her husband.
They had: -
James Jessop, Baron Darcy, succeeded to his grandfather James Darcy, Baron Darcy, but died unmarried on the 15 June, 1733, aged 26 years. The eldest branch of the family in the direct line became extinct.
The burial place of this family was Sheffield Parish Church of St. Peter's, where they were patrons.
At the north end of the chancel is a monumental memorial :
Here lies the bodies of William Jessop of Broomhall, Esq. and the Honourable Mary Jessop his wife, daughter of James Lord Darcy of Navan in the Kingdom of Ireland; which William Jessop was Treasurer and commissioner of the Alienation Office, and nine times chosen as member of parliament for Aldborough. He had by his said wife one son, who on the death of his grandfather the Lord Darcy succeeded him in his estate and title, but died in the lifetime of his father; and four daughters, Barbara married to Andrew Wilkinson, Esq., of Boroughbridge, Isabel married to John Gell, Esq., of Hopton in the county of Derby, and Bertha and Mary. The said William Jessop died November 15th 1734, aged 70. The Honourable Mary Jessop, June 17th 1737 aged 66
