Hercy Sandford married 13 May 1565 to Margaret Copley daughter of Philip Copley of Sprotborough and Mary (1530-1597)(Nee Hastings), of Fenwick, Campsall, Yorkshire. He built Thorpe Salvin manor House in the 1570s

Following the death of Hercy Sandford in 1582, Thorpe Salvin passed to his grandson Francis Nevile, son of Eleanor Sandford and Henry Nevile of Chevet. He sold the estate to Edward Osborne in 1636 and Thorpe Salvin became the occasional residence of the Osborne family.
