I am assured by those who professed to know the fact with absolute certainty
that John & Richard who mar. the two Miss Downes were brothers, & there are
undoubted in the Rotherham Register baptisms of two sons of a Richard, so called;
and yet I remember to have heard that John Seaton Kent was descended of the
Seatons of Brookhouse in Laughton, and made some kind of pretension to that
estate in consequence; and we see his father gave him the name of Seaton. The
only way in which he could descend of that family is by being descended of the
marriage of Wm Kent of Kimberworth, Gent., with Anne Creswick, dau. of Thomas Creswick of Burrow-leigh in psh. of Sheffield by Faith Seaton his wife. This marriage
took place about 1670, and the lady d. Dec. 9, 1723. There was a son Thomas Kent
of Kilnhurst, Gent., who d. March 8, 1747, aged 63, & Wm, John, Eliz., & Barbara.
Nathaniel Beverley of Rotherham, Gent., about 1737, gave lands to Thomas
Kent, 2nd son of John K. of Kimberworth.
There was a William Kent of Ickles Hall, Gent., who d. 12 April 1724, aged 39.
He had a dau. Elizabeth who d. 1 Sep. 1727, aged 11.

Hunter:There is a remarkable marriage in Wolley's Ped. of the Bullocks of Ounston, & which may serve to account for Ralph Bullock having been bur. in the Church of Rotherham. Barbara, dau. of that Ralph, marries Will. Kent of Kimberworth. In some pedigrees she is said to marry Gervas Nevil of Holbeck.
¹ As there is a John Kent named as her son in the will of Eliz. K. 12 May 1727, I think this may be he.
Elizabeth Kent, heiress of the family married John Hirst, their 7th child Catherine, married George Westby of Howarth.

Hunter:It is curious that in the account which Mr Moult & his mother gave me about 1802 of the family of Hirst of Clough the five sons are named, but only 3 daughters, no mention being made of Ann.
John Saunderson, son & heir of Will. S. of Hill House in Hallamshire, mar. 1633, a dau. of Will. Kent of Kimberworth, as appears by the Court Rolls.
It seems as if Richard Kent & Elizabeth (Westby) had also 2 daughters, Frances, bp. 11 Feb. 1696-7, & Elizabeth, bp. 6 July 1701.
Who was Tho. Kent, aged 18, 1669, principal heir & Exr of Sarah Beale of Bramwith Woodhouse, wid., whose original name was West ?
In Marriage Settlement of Richard Kent & Sarah Downes 7 Nov. 1719 her father is described of Rotherham, woolstapler. She had a brother named William. Was he not a Kent the Minister at Denby ?

Mrs Mansel in her will speaks of children of her nephew Mr Richard Kent & nephew Mr John Kent, 1728, which makes a material point in the ped. uncertain; and Eliz. Kent in her will, 1727, names her son John, to whom she leaves 1s.
