Hirst

John Hirst (1715-1796) of Clough House married Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Kent(1719-1777) of Kimberworth Hall.

Their son John (1746-1804) died unmarried amd left his Yorkshire estates to his cousin Henry John Shirt

Henry John Shirt, after inheriting the Yorkshire estates of the Hirst's, Kent's, Westby's and Laughton's - Clough House, Howarth Grange, Kimberworth Hall, and Gilthwaite Hall, changed his name to Hirst.

He was granted the arms of Hirst 28 October 1820, in compliance with the will of his mothers first cousin, John Hirst of Clough, who died in 1804.
