Appeal reaches £26,000
A web appeal set up to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance which rushed Top Gear star Richard Hammond to Leeds General Infirmary has already raised thousands. Yorkshire Air Ambulance relies on donations from the public and needs to raise £3,600 a day to keep its helicopters and paramedics in action. The service attends an estimated 1,000 incidents a year.
Supporters of the presenter, at Pistonheads.com appealed for help raising the £340 it cost to ferry him to hospital and within hours, pledges had exceeded £1,000. The present total is over £26,000.
A message on the site says: This is for everyone that wants to say get well soon Richard and say thankyou to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance at the same time

Congratulations to Paul Goodison
Congratulations to Paul Goodison of Ulley Sailing Club, who won the Laser gold medal for Great Britain recently at the Olympic Test Event for the 2008 Olympics held at the Qingdao International Regatta. Paul was delighted with the victory and saw it as an important step towards success in Qingdao in two years’ time. He said 'I think it is really great to win in a venue that you are going to be sailing in. Just psychologically that you know you can beat all the other guys in these waters. It is a really good sign.'

Hospital Staff fight bid to downgrade jobs
Staff at Rotherham District General Hospital have reacted angrily to plans to downgrade them as part of efforts to save cash. Unions will meet next week to discuss plans to switch dozens of staff to lower grades.
