Ecclesfield Priory and Church
In a list of debts due to the Priory of Ecclesfield is Joh (R)yue(l) and Thomas Ryuel.
In 1379. John Raynald, chaplain, Thomas Frereson of Wirhall, and Robert Seyngnor, of the same, give to Agnes who had been the wife of John Ryvell, all the lands, etc. which they hold in Haldeworth by the gift and feoffment of John Ryvell, her former husband, and after her decease to William, son of Thomas Ryvell, of Haldworth. Dated, Haldesworth, Tuesday next before the feast of the Nativity of St. John Baptist. The witnesses to this deed were Wm. de Birlay, John de Morewod, Win. de Haukesworth, Robt. Alisson, Wm. Dawson, John de Leesto, minor, and Wm. Wittspon.
In 1389, Wm. son of Thomas Ryvell of Haldworth, gave &c. to Dom. John Raynald of Ecclesfield, Chaplain, premises which formerly belonged to John Ryvell, to hold to the said John Raynald, Chaplain, and his heirs, or the right heirs of Wm. Raynald. Witnesses, Henry de Birlay of Ecclesfield, William de Birlay of Bradfield, John de Morewood, Will. Witspon, Kobt. son of John de Haldworth, all of Bradfield, Dated Haldworth, on the feast of St. Edmund K. and Martyr, 1389. By a similar deed, dated Rotherham, on the Monday next after the feast of St. Edmund, 1389, the said William quit-claimed the above to the said Dom. John Raynald, Chaplain, in the presence of Henry de Birlay, Wm. de Birlay, John de Morewood, John de Leeston, Wm. Witspon, Robert de Haldworth, and John Smalbyhynd.
