Chesterfield - Charter of King Henry III. confirming to THE Burgesses of Chesterfield ... Witness - Petro de Ryvall

1232 - Charter granting to Richard Briewer son of William Briewer and his heirs the manor of Chesterfield, with Brimington and Whittington and the soke, and the whole wapentake of Scarsdale, to hold in fee farm of the King and his heirs. The charter also creates Chesterfield a free borough, granting to it a market and fair and all the same liberties as the borough of Nottingham. Confirming 'hominibus Willelmi Bnwerre qui de eo tenent et tenebunt in villa de Cestrefeld hbertatem quam idem Willelmus eis concessit scilicet quod sint liberi Burgenses," and that they may have the same liberties and free customs which King John granted to the same William. I.G. Index) the daughter of their son Ralph (baptised Bolsover July 23rd 1823 I.G. Index) and Caroline? Note: The enumerator is unable to elicit the place of Sarah Revill's birth and records it as U.K. - unknown. Richard's birthplace for the first time is recorded as Duckmanton.

Hasland - March 30th 1851

Aaron Revill, age 30, farmer of 80 acres, son of Richard and Sarah Revill, living at Hasland Green with Mary Thornally 21, his niece. Mary Thornally was the daughter of John Thornally and Mary Thornally nee Revill, the eldest child of Richard and Sarah Revill.

Bolsover - April 7th 1861

Richard Revill, 78, now retired and Sarah Eliza, 77, moved to Middle Street, Bolsover and living with their granddaughter, Caroline age 13. This is the first occasion that Sarah Revill's middle name Eliza is shown. Charles Revill's daughter is named after her grandmother "Sarah Eliza". Richard Revill confirms his place of birth as Duckmanton and Sarah Revill's is now given as Elmton.

Temple Normanton - April 7th 1861

Charles Revill, age 36, farmer of 180 acres, living on Normanton Common with his wife Jane 30 and 9 month old daughter Sarah Eliza.

Hasland - March 30th 1851

John Revill, stonemason and Ruth his wife, living at Grassmore, Hasland Chesterfield with five children. In this return their son is given the name Charles John, in subsequent returns the name of John is omitted.

Grassmoor - April 3rd 1881

Charles and Caroline Revill have now moved to Charles Street, Grassmoor, Hasland and in the last ten years have produced five children: Kate 9, Charles 7, Maud 5, Sarah 3, John 1,

Calow - March 30th 1851

Godfrey Longden, ironstone miner and his wife Ann with their daughter Dorothy living at Windmill Hill. Dorothy unmarried aged 19, is later to become the mother of Caroline Longden. See Sutton-Cum-Duckmanton April 2nd 1871

Calow - April 7th 1861

Godfrey Longden with his wife Ann and their granddaughter Caroline aged 8. Her mother Dorothy now 29 has left home. Next door is the Slack household consisting of Daniel Slack and Martha Slack with Daniel's daughter Ann, and son John and three members of the Longden family. Obviously Martha Slack was at one time married to a Longden by whom she had three children. Similarly, Daniel Slack was left a widower by the death of his first wife by whom he had one daughter, Ann and one son, John.
