Rotherham Union Workhouse
Founded in 1839 on Alma Road, Moorgate, Rotherham. In 1930 it became the General and Municipal Hospital. In 1948 under the National Health Service it was renamed Moorgate Hospital.It was closed in 1980.1891 Census

The Poor Law Union Database lists all Church of England parishes and many additional places and gives the name of the Union that place belonged to and an indication of which Record Office holds the records for that UnionThe Sheffield Poor Law Union was declared 5 June 1837 and comprised the parishes of Attercliffe cum Darnall, Brightside Bierlow, Bradfield Urban, Ecclesall, Handsworth and Sheffield. The Barnsley Poor Law Union was declared 28th December 1849, and the Workhouse erected 1852 from designs by Henry F. Lockwood and William Mawson, architects
