Michael C. Newsome, Actor

Michael C. Newsome, Actor Michael Charles Newsome was born in Rotherham on 8th November, 1953, and lived in Thurcroft. He moved to Canada in September 1977.

His grandfather John Newsome was a miner at Thurcroft Colliery, and married to Isabella. John had family in Leeds and Northumberland. John had a younger sister, and a younger brother, who lived in Thurcroft.

Michael's father, Dennis (1930-2000) was born on 14th August, 1930 and lived in Thurcroft for a number of years. He married Margaret Thompson of Maltby in 1952.

Margaret Thompson was the daughter of Henry Thompson a butcher, from Sheffield and later of Maltby. He was married to Alice Smith.

Dennis and Margaret Newsome moved to Canada in 1982 and after a few years Margaret returned to England. In 2002 she was living in North Yorkshire.

Dennis died on 29th March, 2000.

Michael married Joy Carruthers on May 17, 1975, and they have two sons.

 

Michael loved acting and at age 11, he played the March Hare in Alice in Wonderland. He received training at the Sheffield Playhouse and Crucible Theatre, from John Bird and Colin George, the latter established the Sheffield Crucible Theatre in 1971, along with international designer Tanya Moiseiwitsch.

In 1973, Michael was selected to narrate Oxford University Music Press 50th Anniversary which was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.

During the 1980s and 1990s Michael received several awards while acting on the community stage in Southern Ontario, Canada where he now lives with his wife Joy.

He followed a business career and did not return to professional acting until 2002. Since his return to professional acting, Michael has performed in over twenty film and television projects in both the United States and the U.K.

He was a co-lead in The Artists in 2006 and played Mr. Kyte in PURE in 2007.

In July 2007, at the Fringe of Toronto Festival, Michael appeared in the George Bernard Shaw play, Mrs. Warren's Profession a production by Burning Passions Theatre .

 

 

People in Thurcroft may remember also, his brother Stuart G. Newsome, born in 1955.
