Worksop Show, 1895

The show of prime fed cattle, sheep, lambs, and pigs at the annual Christmas market was quite up to the average, over 150 beasts, 400 sheep and 150 lambs being penned. The trade on the whole was fairly brisk, but the prices realised were in some instances not up to expectations. Prime fed Christmas beasts made from £15 to £20 each, and averaged from 7s. to 7s. 9d. per stone. Prime fed Southdown and cross bred sheep made from 50s. to £5. 4s. each, the latter price being given for a grand wether by Mr. A. Townroe, of Worksop. Lambs, which were fairly plentiful for the time of year, made from 35s. to 50s. each, while pigs, of which there was a really grand show, made from 50s. to £7. 17s. 6d. each.

Mr. F. Stokes's consignment consisted of 87 beasts, contributed by the nobility and gentry of the neighbourhood, including:
