

It was built during the reign of Charles I by Christopher Wilson; there had been a house on the site previously. His father Christopher Wilson resided here, as had his ancestors from the time of Edward I
Charles Wilson (1631-1703) was born at Broomhead Hall, the second son and eventually heir to Christopher Wilson, a favourite of the Earl of Strafford, and Captain in the Parliamentary Service.
In 1658 he was presented to the living of Kimbolton in Huntingdonshire. He conformed at the Restoration. In 1675 he resigned Kimbolton and was presented to the rectory at Babworth, Nottinghamshire. He resigned in favour of Richard Wilson, the son of his younger brother, in 1681. He was instituted to the vicarage of Sheffield in October 1681.
In 1692 his brother, Reginald of Jamaica died and he acquired his property. In 1695 he retired, and withdrew his paternal inheritance at Broomhead. He died in 1703
