Godfrey of Thonock

William Godfrey, Esq.was the proprietor of the manor of Thonock, Gainsbrough in 1666.

Joseph Godfrey (1579-1630) son of William and Joyce, of Thonock married Katherine Willoughby (1583-1658) about 1604 at Gainsborough, children ( Source)

At Darfield Church, Barnsley a momument was erected in memory of Katherine (Nee Willoughby), by her second son Willoughby Godfrey. Katherine survived her husband by 27 years and died in 1658 aged 75 years: Text not available

Son William Godfrey (c1607) married a daughter of ? Saltmarsh of Strubby, Lincolnshire.

William Godfrey of Thorock and unknown had 2 children:

William and Mildred, daughter and co-heir of Robert Williamson of Hawton Lound, Nottinghamashire had a daughter Mildred. It is thought that Margaret Godfrey was also his daughter.(we know Margaret had a sister called Mildred)

Barbara Godfrey, daughter of William Godfrey of Thonock was second wife of Sir William Elliott (b1624) of Busbridge. Children:

Francis Godfrey married Ann Blount, daughter of Charles Blount of Maple-Durham Oxford.

Joseph Godfrey of Thonock Manor married Katherine Willoughby (sister of William Willoughy 3rd Lord Parham). Children:

 

In 1714 Sir Willoughby Hickman purchased the manor of Thonock from Joseph Godfrey.²
