William Boroughs of Shiercliffe Hall
The Boroughs were at Shiercliffe Hall until 1638, the lease of the land being granted by the Thwaites.
William Boroughs was married to Margaret. In his will of April, 1597, William gave the Hall to Margaret and after her death, to his brother Robert and William, his son. He directed that he should be buried near the north door of Sheffield Church.
Elizabeth Boroughs, sister of Richard Boroughs of Tinsley, married John Rawson of Upperthorpe in 1602. One of their sons, Thomas was Rector of Whiston from 1670
Richard Boroughs of Tinsley was married to Margery, had sons, William, Richard, John, Nicholas and Robert, and daughters Elizabeth and Alice, who were all beneficiaries of his will written in May, 1556.
1556 BOROWES, Richard, Tynneslawe, in the parish of Rotherham, written 6 May 1556. Beneficiaries: daughters Elizabeth & Alice, £20; wife Margery & son Robert, indenture with Nicholas DEMMAY; other children William, Richard, John & Nicholas.
Nicholas married Elizabeth Ardron, (b Abt 1597) daughter of James Ardron , born about 1561 at Treeton, and Katherine Stacye
In 1615 a John Burrows of Whiston was to marry Ellen Thornton of Bradford at Bradford.
Ellen, daughter and co-heir of Richard Boroughs of Rotherham married Nicholas Mounteney of Rotherham in 1591.
Richard Burrowes of Guilthwaite, Whiston, was married to Joanne. Of his daughters:
- Frances married George Westby of Ravenfield, whose son George married Alice Stringer 3rd daughter of Francis Stringer of Whiston
- Elizabeth married Henry Westby of Carr House
- Alice married John Webster
Richard Burrowes was buried in Whiston churchyard. Beneficiaries of his will written in February, 1616:
