Beighton of Sheffield

MS 266


Margrett Beighton (1538-1593) was born about 1538 at Bradfield, Sheffield, where she married to Nycolas RONKSLEY. Children:

 

John Beighton of Hilltop Sheffield married Dorothy, daughter of Gregory Revell, about 1557; they had a son.

 

1581: Robert Beighton had a daughter, Elizabeth, who married George Torre, and Margaret, who married John Revell, gent. Source:Sheffield Archives: Spencer Stanhope Muniments ref. SpSt/17/2

According to Family Search (IGI) Robert Beighton or Bryghton Yeoman had a daughter, Elizabeth, b.1566 Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Elizabeth married twice:

  1. John Revell(1562-1594) of Ogston, Morton, son of John Revell and Mary (Nee Comberford(1530-1568, dau of Thomas Comberford and Dorothy FITZHERBERT
  2. William Harris

Another Website has no mention of Elizabeth marrying twice

Will of Robert Beyghton of Halome within the parish of Sheffeld, proved 1 September 1563 at York He directed that his body should be buried in the churchyard of St Peter Sheffeld. He gave to John Beyghton his son; the rest of all his goods unbequeathed, his debts paid, he gave to Katheryne his wife, James Beyghton, John Beyghton, Sicillie Daill, Margaret Beyghton and Elizabeth Beyghton his children, whom he ordained and made his executors to order and dispose of his goods, for the health of his soul, as they thought fit. Witnesses: Thomas Storthe, John Oxprynge, Richard Borows. The will was proved by Katheryne the widow, James Beyghton, John Beyghton and Cicillie Daill, power being reserved to Margaret and Elizabeth Beyghton, then being minors. May 20th 1563

 

In 1623 John Shaw married Isabel Beighton of Bradfield. (Pavers ML)

 

John Beighton married Helen, daughter of Robert Rawson and Alice of Brookfiend.

1672 William BEIGHTON, of Stumperlow, Sheffield, yeoman, written 20 Jun 1672. Beneficiaries:Margaret*, ‘now my wife’; eldest son George BEIGHTON, under 21 years; son Joseph BEIGHTON; children John BEIGHTON, Francis BEIGHTON, Robert BEIGHTON & Alice BEIGHTON.

John Beighton of Bradfield (Yeoman will 1707) m. Grace Froggatt in 1695 Hathersage and had children:

George and Mary had a son William who m. Elizabeth Beighton 1745 at Sheffield and a son Jonathan (1725-1792)

 

Notes re Froggatt: Grace Froggatt parents were John Froggatt (Yeoman of Moorseats. Will 1703) m Grace (Gracia) Froggatt and also had children Benjamin (of Moorseats will 1743) m Ann Sheppard in Hathersage; and Mary m. Thomas Grundy in Hathersage.

The Froggatt's are linked to the Eyres family through marriage (John Froggatt above father John Froggatt m Mary Eyres and inherited Moorseats in Hathersage, it later reverted back to the Eyres.
