Train Taxi
Now and again there's a new idea on the web where the potential benefits can be seen straight away. The idea behind TrainTaxi is really quite simple but will prove to be helpful to many of Rotherhamweb visitors.
As everyone knows, there's a taxi rank outside each major railway station, but what about those travelling in rural areas?
Suppose you've travelled from Lincoln to attend a meeting at Harthill. The train timetable is no problem - off you tootle to your station in Lincoln, buy your ticket and enjoy the run across to the nearest station to Harthill which is Kiveton.
Being used to the city life you get off your train and take a look for the taxi rank......... Ooops, there's a slight problem! No taxi rank, in fact no anything. There's the Chesterfield Canal, a pub down the road or how about the signal box. Having just checked the TrainTaxi database it seems that it's not just the rural areas who suffer taxi rank shortages. It appears that even the station at Worksop, a sizeable town, doesn't feature a taxi rank.
Being aware of the need to provide reliable and accurate information the clever people at TrainTaxi have developed a database and guide that: (quoting from their site...) lists all the train, metro, tram and underground stations in Britain shows whether each station has a taxi rank or cab office lists up to three local taxi or cab firms serving each station
Using the TrainTaxi information will allow rail travellers to overcome what can be a major obstacle - bridging those final few miles to their destination.
