Tenants Voices at Rotherham Show

Rotherham tenant voices will be heard loud and clear at the Rotherham Show on Saturday 8th September 2007. Thanks to a grant of £4342 from Awards for All, the Rotherham Federation of Tenants and Residents (Rother Fed) will have their own marquee and working with a professional film maker to produce a DVD called 'tenants voices' interviewing real tenants from Rotherham and getting their own views on what it is really like to live in our villages and communities.

Tenants and Residents Groups from all over the borough will have stalls and displays in the marquee including Aston TARA, High Nook TARA, Manor Farm TARA, Rawmarsh and Parkgate Community Action Group and Westgarth and New Street TARA. Children’s activities are also planned.

The marquee situated on the hill above the Diversity Festival will be based on the theme of tenants voices and the specially commissioned film will be a collective effort, with some video recording on the day. Steve Ruffle, Development Manager of Rother Fed said "our marquee will be showcasing some of the excellent work of our tenants and resident groups, all volunteers in their own communities wanting to change things for the better. Shameless may make good TV but its time the myth that all tenants are drug addicts and alcoholics is challenged. Most tenants in Rotherham are hard working decent people proud of their homes and communities and the film we are making will attempt to show this."

Sanctuary Housing has also donated £100 towards free cold drinks and other sponsors would be welcome. More details about the film, the marquee and sponsorship from Steve Ruffle on 01709 822258 or by e-mail at steve.ruffle@rotherfed.org
