Rotherham's Newman School in Top Seven in Europe !

Jock Todhunter receives E-Learning Award

Newman School were delighted to hear news in December 2005 that their web-based writing project Personal Demons had won through to the finals of a prestigious e-learning competition.

'I had a email inviting me to Paris to collect our prize' ,announced a delighted Jack Todhunter. 'It was a fitting reward for many hours of hard work by our students. We were happy when we learnt we had made the top one hundred a few weeks ago, but when we learnt we had picked up third prize, we were pinching ourselves. This is a fantastic achievement for our school and we are feeling very proud'

The prize money of two thousand Euros will buy a video camera plus a new computer to make video films on.

PERSONAL DEMONS

The Personal Demons project is a multi-disciplinary scheme of work that caters particularly well for reluctant readers and the Newman team has already received the grand accolade of personally presenting their work to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and working closely with the English Faculty at Cambridge University.

Newman School, as the founders of the project, has worked with children’s writer Steve Alton in conjunction with schools in Rotherham to produce an interactive website that has picked up followers around the globe
