Cadeby Pit Disaster of 1912
12th July, 1912
Mr. W. H. Chambers, Managing Director of the Denaby and Cadeby Colliery Company, stated that the colliery was now safe. Analysis had been made of the air in the colliery, both of the little escaping from the affected workings behind the stoppings and also of that on the outside of the brickwork. He said that these show that the air behind the stoppings was of a non explosive mixture.
He further stated that the stoppings must be kept intact for some time, as if they were taken down and atmosphere air was allowed to enter, the admission of more oxygen would render the air inflammable
He said the rest of the pit would resume working the following Monday.
