Auction of Estate at Dalton
Held at Rotherham, in the County of York - By Mr. Hoggart, at the Mart, on Friday, October 26th 1827 at 12 noon.
A very valuable Freehold Estate, situate at Dalton, in the parish of Rotherham, in the county of York, consisting of a large and commodious dwelling house, large garden and orchard, well stocked with wall and standard fruit trees, a spacious farm yard with barns, stables, cow houses, and other necessary outbuildings, and 174 acres, 2 roods, and 33 perches of excellent arable, meadow, and pasture land, more or less; also three undivided fourth parts of land in three closes of land, containing 13 acres, 1 rood, and 19 perches, more or less, and 6 cottages for the convenience of labourers employed on the land; also a close of land, called the Stubbings, containing 8 acres, 3 roods, and 6 perches, more or less, adjoining the above but in the parish of Whiston, in the county of York; also 8 acres of wood land, more or less, in a thriving state.
Under part of the estate there are excellent seams of coal. The whole, except the close called the Stubbings, is tithe free, and that close is subject to the payment of an annual corn rent in lieu of tithe. The above estate is beautifully situate and commands an extensive view of the surrounding country, is 2 miles from Rotherham, 8 from Sheffield, and 10 from Doncaster, and adjoins the turnpike road from Sheffield to Doncaster. The neighbourhood abounds in game, and is regularly hunted by three packs of fox hounds.
