Will of William Roncksley
By his Will, dated 9th October 1723, William Roncksley (1650-1724) of Gunthwaite, gave 30s. for the use of a school in Fulwood, for which four children of the poorer sort should be taught to read English only, to be chosen out of Fulwood by his nephews, Humphrey Wardle(y) and John Wardle(y), otherwise John Roncksley, and their heirs, and for want of such heirs, by the feoffees or trustees of the said school; and that Mary Roncksley and others had given 35s. for the use of the school.
He also bequeathed £100 for the use of a school to be built in or near Crookes, Sheffield, for teaching 12 children of the poorer sort, to be chosen out of Crookes and the neighbourhood, to read English only. Refer to Hunter's Hallamshire
