Thomas Pearson

John Pearson Born abt 1673 Died abt 1740, a Wheelwright in Laughton en le Morthen
Ann Pearson nee Taylor Wife. Children:

Thomas Pearson, Seaman, was the son of Elizabeth and John Pearson of Laughton-en-le-Morthen.

He served on the HMS Cerberus and HMS Montague.

Thomas made a will dated 7th August, 1779, and made an amendment to this will on 20th November, 1782. We presume this is because he was serving with the Navy overseas.

HMS Cerberus

HMS Cerberus was a British frigate sunk during the Siege of Newport during the American Revolution.

HMS Cerberus arrived in Boston on May 25, 1775 onboard were Major Generals William Howe, John Burgoyne and Henry Clinton

HMS Montague

HMS Montagu, sometimes spelled Montague, was a 74-gun third rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 28 August 1779 at Chatham. Montagu took part in the Battle of Cape St Vincent in 1780 and the Glorious First of June in 1794.

Will of Thomas Pearson

Dated 3rd August 1779

Thomas Pearson late of Laughton-en-le-Morthen Seaman on board his Majesty's ship Cerberus and Montague bequeathed all to his mother Elizabeth Pearson.

Amendment dated 20th November 1782

Administration ..... the goods and chattells of Thomas Pearson late belonging to His Majesty's ship HMS Cerberus and HMS Montague and seaman in the pay of his Majesty's navy ... was granted to William Pashley the lawful attorney of Elizabeth Pearson (wife of John Pearson) the mother of said Pearson and sole executrix named in the said will for the use and benefit of the said will. Executrix now residing at Laughton in the county of York.
