In 1878/9: Rotherham Borough Treasurer was John Gibbs, Esq a bank manager in the town, (possibly Rotherham and South Yorkshire Permanent Benefit Building Society). He married 07 Oct 1865 at the Parish Church, Rotherham to Mary Ann Elizabeth Fisher born 05 Jul 1841, Trafalgar Street, Walworth, Surrey, England.The 1881 census records he was living at 3 High Street Rotherham:

John Gibbs was recorded in 1893 as Manager to Sheffield and Rotherham Joint Stock Banking Co Ltd. Mary died in 1906 and in 1916 John married Mary’s sister, Harriett in 1916. John died in 1917.
Charles Sydney Gibbs( b1876), was the English Tutor to the Tsar of Russia’s children. Charles Sydney, the youngest surviving son, went to schools at Broadstairs in Kent, his father wished him to enter the Church and he gained a BA from St John's in 1899. At some stage he was living at Old Bank House, Rotherham. He went to St.Petersburg, Russia in 1901 and in about 1913 he was teaching English to the children of Tsarevich Alexei. In 1928 he returned to Britain.
