The part of the highway which separated Laughton from Brampton at Thurcroft, and Bramley from Hellaby was known as Street Lane.
In 1822 Thurcroft was in the Parish of Laughton-en-le-Morthen. The census of 1851 shows there were only 6 dwellings in Thurcroft. It was not until the pit was sunk in 1909 that development of the village began.
